CKC Wendy's Plus size yoga skirt and Pippa ponch

Today is my first post of July.  Summer is hard on me. LOL But I have been waiting patiently to share this.  And today is a twofer.  Woo-hoo

So I told you in my first post that Im sort of in love with Create Kids Couture.  I cant help it.
Today I wanna share two patterns that I got to test for CKC.

First i wanna tell you about Pippas Plus Size Poncho.  When I think poncho I think about the ugly yellow plastic things that fisherman wear.  Ugh, I just felt a shudder go down my back at the idea of wearing one of those.  But this is not that I assure you.  This is fabulousness

This pattern does have a few pages to print out that you then tape together to create one pattern piece.  You then cut that on the fold so you only have two pieces of fabric to sew together.  I used my serger and did a rolled hem on the outside edges and it was so stinking fast.  The only other piece of fabric is for your bias tape/drawstring.  You also use a very small amount of interfacing to create  the placket/V in the front.  It was my first time working with interfacing and it was so easy.  Th instuctions for this are super simple.

There is not a lot of sewing on this but its got several rows of shirring at the waist on the front and back.  If you have never tried shirring than get started.  It is amazingly easy as soon as you figure out how to get it working with your machine.  I use the hobby lobby brand elastic thread and have never had any issues.  But if did take some practice.

I made this one using a heavier cotton from Hobby Lobby.  Looking back now I wish I had used something lighter just for a drapier feel but even so it gets worn at least once a week.  It is super comfortable and I get lots of compliments on it.  Im going to be wearing this one in the fall with some cute skinnies.  And making a lot more as soon as I get more sewing time.  Get it here CKC PIPPA'S PLUS PONCHO.

Nexgt I wanna share Wendy's knit yoga skirt.  First, I wanna say I am not a skirt wearer.  I can never get the right fit on my hips and then it rides up my waist....so annoying.  Plus finding a shirt to match is a nightmare but I've been converted.  Meet my first yoga skirt

So I made this with a very inexpensive knit from Jo-Ann's because I was super nervous about ordering knit and not getting it in time.  But I will say this knit has a very nice feel to it.  Although I will be ordering more knit from Purple Seamstress.

There are no pattern pages that need to be printed out.  And just three pieces that need to be cut out.  This is the simple version.  But there is also the tiered and the bubble skirt version.  I chose the simple because Im in Texas and its summer.  I need less fabric.  The simple version is perfect.  Im going to do lots of the bubble version for fall though.  I didn't hem the dress which works for me because at the top of my knee it is the perfect length.  Hemming it would have made it too short.  Plus look at my legs they are milk white.  You don't wanna see above the knee.  Its ghostly.

At the beginning of the pattern are some great tips for sewing with knit and I definitely suggest reading through those and testing out a couple of stitches first but this is a great patter for your first try at knits or just for practice.

The fold down yoga waistband is fantastic.  Comfortable and flattering.  What more can you ask for right?
I've recently told my husband that he has to watch the kids on the weekend while I go grocery shopping if anyone wants to eat.  This is now my outing outfit. :) I feel more put together and its perfect for walking up and down the aisles at the store.  Pretending Im some cute chick that wears yoga skirts everyday and is footless and fancy free.  Get the pattern here CKC WENDY'S PLUS YOGA SKIRT.
